Here's the part everyone will miss: Hamilton's tyre degradation was +0.039 seconds per lap. Norris's was -0.016. The Ferrari was getting slower every lap. The McLaren was getting faster. By Lap 19, Hamilton wasn't just fighting Norris — he was fighting a car that was actively falling away from him.

And he still held P7. He still kept everyone behind him honest. He still posted consistent lap times in the low 93s while the McLaren was living in the 92s. That's not a bad day. That's a driver extracting everything the car had and knowing it wasn't going to be enough.

The narrative coming out of Miami will be about Norris's dominant sprint win from pole. And it was dominant — nobody's taking that away. But dominant wins don't tell you much about the driver. They tell you about the car.

What tells you about the driver is what happens when the car isn't fast enough. Hamilton drove nineteen laps in a Ferrari that was six tenths slower in the most important sector and still came home in the position he started. No heroics, no mistakes, no drama. Just a perfect execution of a seventh-place race.

Watch Canada. If Ferrari brings upgrades and Hamilton is still losing six tenths in Sector 1, we'll know it's the car. If that gap closes, we'll know the McLaren's Miami advantage was track-specific. Either way, this sprint didn't prove Norris is faster than Hamilton. It proved the MCL41 is faster than the SF-27. And Hamilton already knew that by Turn 3.
