Sector 2 at São Paulo is where lap time goes to die. It's the slowest part of the circuit, a sequence of tight corners where mechanical grip matters more than aerodynamics, and mistakes compound. Hadjar was the slowest of the top eight finishers through this sector. Not by much — we're talking hundredths against most of the field — but against Norris, three-tenths.

That's not a mistake. That's a ceiling. Hadjar didn't bin it into the barriers or run wide. He executed a clean lap, hit his marks, and still came out 0.307 seconds down through four corners. The Racing Bulls was doing everything it could. It wasn't enough.

By Lap 20 — their fastest laps — Hadjar knew. You can see it in the data: his pace wasn't falling off, his tyres weren't gone. He was driving as fast as the car would let him. The problem was that Norris's car let him go faster.

Sector 2 accounted for 51% of the total lap time spread between the top eight finishers. It's where the pecking order gets established. Norris ran a 35.534 through there. Hadjar ran a 35.841. In a qualifying session punctuated by three red flags and enough chaos to shuffle the order half a dozen times, that gap never closed.

What matters is what he does with it. He finished P5, ahead of George Russell, ahead of Liam Lawson. He extracted everything the Racing Bulls had. At Las Vegas, in two weeks, he'll need to do it again — and hope that three-tenths doesn't turn into six.
