The hard compound wasn't degrading — his average lap time on hards was 95.56 seconds with negative degradation. The tyres were getting faster, not slower.

And yet Piastri, on the same tyre, took half a second out of him every single lap. By Lap 30, the gap had doubled. By the flag, Ocon was a minute and forty seconds behind.

This wasn't a tyre cliff. This wasn't traffic. This was a car that couldn't turn the gift of track position into anything resembling pace. Ocon's average lap on hards was 2.6 seconds slower than Piastri's. That's not a strategy problem. That's a car problem, and no amount of safety car luck fixes it.

Ocon had every strategic advantage this circuit could offer — a free pit stop, a tyre offset, and 49 laps to make it count. He gained five places from where he started, which sounds fine until you remember he was gifted ten places' worth of strategy and gave half of it back.

Safety car lottery tickets are worthless if the car underneath you can't cash them in. Haas has that problem. Ocon just proved it.
