Let's be clear about what happened here. Stroll finished P20 — dead last — seven positions behind Alonso. Everyone will blame the deleted lap. The narrative will be "bad luck" or "marginal error." But look at the gap chart. Alonso was already pulling away lap after lap. By the time Stroll clipped the white line at Turn 6, he was already 4 seconds behind on raw pace.

The deleted lap just formalized what the telemetry already knew: Stroll was nowhere near his teammate's pace. He pitted twice and gave up. Alonso pitted four times and kept pushing, finishing P13 in a session with four red flags and chaos everywhere. One driver treated qualifying like a test of precision. The other treated it like survival.

Here's the thing about track limits penalties: they happen when you're trying to find time you don't have. Stroll went off at Turn 6 because he was already a second and a half down and desperate. The penalty wasn't bad luck. It was a symptom.

Alonso's average lap time on softs across 12 laps was 99.78 seconds. Stroll didn't even complete six laps on the same compound before giving up and pitting again. You can't build a qualifying session — or a race setup — when you're stopping after five laps because the car feels undriveable. And when your teammate is calmly clicking off consistent laps a second and a half faster, the problem isn't the car.

Watch Bahrain. If Stroll can't close this gap on a circuit he knows, with a full race week to reset, the questions stop being about one bad session and start being about something bigger. Alonso just showed what this car can do when it's driven to the limit. His teammate didn't even get close.
