Sector 2 is where this qualifying session was decided. Not in the final chicane, not on the run to Turn 1. In the technical middle sector — Turns 7 through 10 — Russell was 0.326 seconds faster. That's an eternity in qualifying. That's the difference between pole and P8.

Leclerc was already wounded coming out of Sector 1, down a quarter-second. But Sector 2 is where the Ferrari simply couldn't respond.
