The tyre strategy tells you everything. Russell ran 40 laps on the hard compound before switching to mediums — a stint so long his degradation rate went negative, meaning he was getting faster as the tyres came in. Perez did the opposite: started on mediums, pitted early for hards, and spent the second half of the race watching his pace bleed away at three hundredths per lap.
