Alexander Albon Had Four Deleted Laps. Lando Norris Had None That Mattered.

Albon had four lap times deleted for track limits violations. Three at Turn 2, one at Turn 4. All in the wet. All while pushing.

Norris had one deleted lap — on Lap 5, before the session truly mattered. After that, clean. Every fast lap counted.

The Williams was rapid through the technical middle sector, the part of the circuit where precision matters most in the wet. Albon was 1.13 seconds faster than Norris there. On a normal day, that's a dominant performance.

But this was not a normal day. The track was drying in patches, then flooding again. Five separate rain interruptions. Seven red flags. Twenty laps of track limits deletions across the field. The fastest car meant nothing if you couldn't keep it between the white lines.

Norris wasn't faster. He was cleaner. His fastest lap came on Lap 32, near the end of the session, when the track had dried enough to matter but was still treacherous enough to punish mistakes. He gave up over a second in Sector 2 alone compared to what Albon had shown earlier.

It didn't matter. Albon's best laps had already been wiped. Norris's stayed on the timing sheets.

In wet qualifying, the fastest lap time is not always the one that counts. Albon proved you can be over a second faster in a sector and still finish six places behind.

Las Vegas is dry. No rain forecast. Track limits will still be there, but the margins won't forgive the way São Paulo did. Watch whether Williams can carry that mid-sector pace onto a track where every lap time stays on the board.
