Alonso finished fifth after 50 laps on a compromised strategy. Stroll retired on lap six while running ahead. That gap tells you everything about why one driver has a contract and the other has a father who owns the team.
Lance Stroll had the better Saturday. He started P10 to Alonso's P4, but overtook him cleanly on lap one and was running second by lap six, ahead of his two-time world champion teammate. Then his brakes caught fire and his race ended.
Here's the problem: Alonso still finished 14 positions ahead of him.
