Let's be clear about what happened here. Perez qualified poorly — fine, it happens. He started on a mystery compound for four laps — odd, but recoverable. He pitted on Lap 14 for mediums — reasonable enough.

And then he proceeded to lap half a second slower per lap than Verstappen for the remainder of the sprint. Not in traffic. Not on different strategies. Just slower. Consistently, measurably, devastatingly slower.
