In fact, his didn't even threaten to break. He ran 70 laps, made his pit stop on schedule, bolted on a set of hards, and brought the thing home in P11.

That's a seven-position swing between teammates in identical machinery. And before you say "well, Alonso was obviously pushing harder" — the telemetry says otherwise.
