Charles Leclerc took pole by 0.321 seconds over Oscar Piastri. In Baku, where qualifying margins are usually measured in hundredths, that's a statement.

Ferrari didn't just edge it. They dismantled it.

Baku is supposedly a power circuit. The long straight down to Turn 1 is the longest full-throttle section in Formula 1. Sector 3 has another flat-out blast to the line. Those are the places that should matter.

Leclerc was fastest in both. He won Sector 1 by eight-hundredths and Sector 3 by the same. Marginal gains. Professional execution.

Sector 2 is where he buried them. The castle section — Turns 8 through 15 — is a series of ninety-degree walls where commitment is everything and mistakes are immediate. Leclerc was 0.159 seconds faster than Piastri through seven corners.

That's more time than he found in the entire rest of the lap.

This wasn't about bravery or a single perfect corner. The speed trace shows the Ferrari carrying more velocity through every phase of the castle section. Not by much — a few kilometres per hour here, a touch more apex speed there — but consistently, corner after corner.

Piastri didn't make a mistake. He just didn't have the car underneath him.

Ferrari arrived in Baku with a setup that works on this surface, in these temperatures, through these walls. McLaren didn't. The gap wasn't close enough to fix with a better lap.

Singapore is next. Another street circuit, another castle section, another place where mechanical grip decides Saturday. Ferrari will need to prove this wasn't specific to Baku.
