Look at the gap chart. Alonso led briefly after Stroll's first pit stop on Lap 20, but that advantage evaporated the moment Stroll got onto the hard compound. By Lap 43—when Stroll made his second and final stop—the gap was over 40 seconds.

Alonso's response? A desperate three-stop strategy that included bolting on soft tyres with two laps remaining. It didn't work. He finished lapped, five positions behind, with a 10-second penalty for causing a collision thrown on top.

The tyre strategy tells you everything. Stroll did the entire race on two stops: medium to hard. Clean, simple, effective. The conventional wisdom is that Stroll gets dragged along by Alonso's experience and racecraft. Austria flipped that script. Alonso looked slow, ragged, and desperate. Stroll looked composed, measured, and fast.

Silverstone is next. If Alonso shows up and reasserts himself, fine—we can call Austria an anomaly. But if this pattern holds? The entire narrative around Aston Martin just got rewritten. And the new version has Lance Stroll as the faster driver.
